The Consumer Price Index, known as CPI, closed the year 2025 with a year-on-year decrease of minus 1.23%, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics and Census, INEC.
According to the report, during December 2025 the CPI registered a monthly variation of plus 0.8%, which means a slight increase in prices with respect to the previous month. The level of the general index stood at 109.036, while in November it was 108.947.
INEC indicated that the divisions with the greatest effect on the monthly variation were Food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as Transportation.
Of the total of 289 goods and services included in the calculation, 47% increased in price, 35% decreased, and 18% showed no change.
Among the products with the greatest positive effect in the month were tomatoes, onions and papaya. On the other hand, gasoline, new automobiles and rice were among those with the greatest negative effect.
Finally, of the thirteen divisions that make up the index, eight registered price increases.
