In Costa Rica, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell by 0.041% in April 2026, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses, the INEC.
With this result, the cumulative change for the first four months of the year stands at -0.891% (quarter-on-quarter), while year-over-year inflation stands at -1.641% (quarter-on-quarter).
Among the products and services that most influenced the price drop are foreign tour packages, new cars, and potatoes. Conversely, products such as tomatoes, gasoline, and housing rentals showed increases during the month.
The report also notes that of the 289 goods and services included in the index, 46.1% saw a decrease in price, 34.1% saw an increase, and 20.1% remained unchanged. In addition, nine of the thirteen divisions that make up the CPI reported price decreases.
Experts believe this behavior reflects a low inflationary pressure environment, although they recommend maintaining attention on sensitive products such as fuel and food.
