Treasury will enforce business closures for noncompliance with customs regulations

As of August 15, the Treasury can order the temporary closure of businesses for 15 days when violations of customs regulations are proven. The measure seeks to standardize administrative sanctions and reinforce control.

As of August 15, a new policy came into effect that will allow the Ministry of Finance to to order the temporary closure of businesses for a period of fifteen days when violations of customs regulations are detected.

The measure, established in article 242 ter of the General Customs Law and formalized by means of resolution MH-DGA-RES-1211-2025 The purpose of this program is to standardize administrative sanctions and reinforce transparency in the auditing process.

According to the general director of Customs, Juan Carlos Gómez, this provision is part of the modernization of customs processes and will allow Customs to extend its jurisdiction beyond the border areas, reaching any business that fails to comply with the regulations.
