The Ministry of Finance reported that the total revenues of the Central Government reached ₡519.843 billion in August 2026, representing a growth of 2.7% compared to the same month of 2025.
According to the Treasury, this behavior is related to the actions implemented within the National Strategy to Combat Smuggling and Tax Evasion, including operations in businesses and on the roads, the seizure of goods, and other tax control measures.
Tax revenues accounted for 87.4% of the month's revenue and increased by 2.7%. Among the main increases are income and profit tax collection, which grew by 5.5%; the single fuel tax, with an increase of 16.9%; and property taxes, which grew by 20.2%.
At the end of the third quarter, the Central Government recorded a primary surplus of ₡435,251 million, equivalent to 0.8% of GDP. In this way, for the sixth consecutive year, total revenues exceeded primary expenditures.
However, the Treasury noted that the accumulated financial deficit as of August reached ₡1,200,666 million, equivalent to 2.3% of GDP, mainly due to the behavior of capital expenditures, salaries and interest payments.
