The Government of Costa Rica confirmed that it is thoroughly reviewing the recent Executive Order issued by the United States on September 5, 2009, which introduces changes in the application of reciprocal tariffs.
The measure modifies the Annex II of Executive Order 14257by eliminating some products and incorporating others such as precious metals y critical minerals. In addition, a new Annex III that opens up the possibility of reduce tariffs on goods that cannot be produced in the U.S. or whose production is insufficient to meet domestic demand.
In implementing these reductions, the U.S. administration will take into account factors such as national interest, security and trade agreements with its partners. Costa Rica reiterated its commitment to actively participate in the negotiations and pledged to communicate any progress to the public.
