The General Directorate of Customs of Costa Rica has announced that it is prepared to implement the collection of taxes on all purchases made over the Internet, starting in January of next year. This measure is part of the Hacienda Digital initiative, which seeks to modernize and improve efficiency in tax collection. The new system will replace the current TICA and is inspired by a model similar to that used in Brazil, with the aim of increasing tax revenues from international transactions.

The project is part of a broader government effort to upgrade the technological infrastructure and customs processes. The implementation of this system will enable more efficient management of electronic transactions and ensure that online purchases contribute adequately to government coffers.
