Last week the Government of the Republic announced an investment of US $$60 million to strengthen the sustainable development of fishing and aquaculture in the country, financing projects that will strengthen their sustainable development.

The action plan involves various public institutions, including INCOPESCA, the National Learning Institute (INA), the Ministry of the Environment and Energy (MINAE), INDER, the Integral Agricultural Marketing Program (PIMA), and the Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER).

The program covers a two-year period and includes activities such as management plans, infrastructure, modernization and digitalization, equipment purchases, training and personnel training. It also includes the expansion of infrastructure for the sector, together with the construction of new wharves and modernization of longline fishing gear.

In addition, the project ensures compliance with the commitments made to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as well as allowing the inclusion of new activities to benefit the fishing and aquaculture sector.
