Unemployment in Costa Rica reaches its lowest level of the year

The unemployment rate in Costa Rica remained at 6% with 137 thousand people out of work according to INEC. Labor participation dropped to 54% and informal employment affected 810 thousand people in the June-August 2025 quarter.

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses presented the most recent results of the Continuous Employment Survey for the June, July and August 2025 quarter.

According to the data, the national unemployment rate was located at 6 percent, The company's operations in the United States, with no significant changes compared to the previous year, have remained stable. Currently, 137 thousand people are out of work, of which 76 thousand are men and 62 thousand are women.

The labor participation rate went down to 54 percent, This means that fewer people are actively in the labor market. As for the informal employment, the study estimates that about 810 thousand people work in informal conditions, mainly on a self-employed basis.

In total, the working population reaches 2.16 million people, while the total workforce is estimated at 2.3 million.

These results reflect a slight improvement in unemployment, but also a decrease in participation and employment, especially among women.
