VAT collection shows a decrease in most economic sectors

The domestic VAT collection decreased by ¢13.975 billion during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The slowdown in some activities and changes in consumption patterns are among the possible causes, and the Tax Administration will continue to monitor their evolution.

Revenue from the Value-Added Tax (VAT) at the domestic level recorded a decrease during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year. According to recent data, collection fell by ¢13.975 billion, reflecting a differentiated performance among the various sectors of the economy.

Among the factors that could explain this result are the slowdown in some economic activities and changes in consumption patterns. The behavior of the VAT constitutes one of the main indicators of the country’s economic dynamics, since it taxes a large portion of the transactions involving the sale of goods and the provision of services.

The evolution of this tax will be one of the aspects that the Tax Administration will continue to monitor throughout the rest of the year, due to its importance within fiscal revenues and public finances.
