The Fiscal Control Police The Ministry of Finance dealt a new blow to contraband smuggling this weekend in the southern part of the country. During an operation carried out on Saturday, March 14, authorities intercepted two light trucks carrying suspected illegal liquor.
The seizure reached approximately 30 thousand units of assorted liquors, which, according to preliminary information, would have entered the national territory under the smuggling modality.
The police action was initiated following an alert received by the teams stationed in the region. While traveling along the route between Palmar Norte and Ciudad Cortés, the officers detected the suspicious vehicles; however, the drivers tried to flee when they noticed the police presence.
After their detention and an initial inspection, the illegal transfer of the merchandise was confirmed. The drivers were referred as suspects to the judicial authorities, along with the driver of a private vehicle arrested for resisting arrest.
The Ministry of Finance reiterated its call to the public to report this type of crime through the “Denuncie Ya” (Report Now) application available on its website or by calling 2539-6800.
With this action, the authorities are strengthening controls to combat illegal trade and protect the country's tax revenues.
