The Ministry of Finance reported that, following an operation carried out at the end of September at 10 casinos located in San José, Alajuela, Heredia and Puntarenas, ₡361.5 million in penalties for tax violations were determined.
During the inspections, the General Directorate of Taxation identified that all the establishments reviewed did not provide electronic receipts for the purchase of gaming chips.
Furthermore, other irregularities were detected, including the failure to declare all gaming tables and gambling activities to the Tax Authority, as well as statements showing zero profits for tax purposes or zero value-added tax (VAT).
According to the Treasury, these actions are part of the National Strategy to Combat Smuggling and Tax Evasion, through which the authorities have intensified controls to identify non-compliance and recover unpaid taxes.
The Deputy Minister of Revenue, Víctor Julio Carvajal Porras, indicated that the corresponding procedures have already been initiated to apply the sanctions and recover the outstanding taxes.
