The Ministry of Finance announced the launch of a new national plan aimed at strengthening the fight against smuggling and tax fraud, with the aim of protecting tax revenue and promoting fairer competition for companies that correctly meet their obligations.
The strategy contemplates greater coordination between tax authorities, customs, and police forces, as well as strengthening controls over goods, commercial activities, and operations that may present risks of tax non-compliance.
According to the Treasury Department, these actions aim to reduce practices that create market distortions and affect both public revenue and taxpayers operating within the law. Likewise, they are part of institutional efforts to improve collection efficiency without resorting to the creation of new taxes.
The initiative reflects the growing importance of control and oversight mechanisms within the country's tax strategy, as well as the role they play in the sustainability of public finances.
